Consider supporting a better vendor than Samsung

Added by David Hedlund about 7 years ago

If we would like to support a OLPC concept look at Lenovo A1900 which is one of the cheapest multilanguage smartphones.

Asus is interesting as a company because lots of their mainboards are supported by Coreboot.

Currently, you only have the choice between running an "unethical" but freedom-wise better Samsung device or buying a Fairphone which needs around 170 MB of non-free blobs to operate properly. Many people have invested effort in trying to convince Fairphone to make their devices more freedom-respecting, but this is only a secondary or tertiary goal for them - if it's a goal at all.

Personally, I don't find it that unethical to buy an old and used Samsung phone supported by Replicant as you don't really support them by buying used devices anyways.

I agree with you. not supporting Samsung = not needing the latest crap of theirs and/or a version of their device which collects info from users.

meaning, Replicant is the answer to not supporting Samsung's greed or other companies for that matter.
