Porting to HTC Desire HD

Added by George T over 9 years ago

I have an HTC Desire HD that I tried selling as second hand but the traders wouldn't accept as it's rooted and runs non stock Android(AOKP) and their reasoning was that this is an 'illegal form of hacking'(nevermind that its my own property to tinker with). So although I can place back stock Android and unroot it and then sell it, I decided to dedicate it to the community under one of the following forms:
- Donate it to the Replicant project if there is going to be any use for it, with postage paid by me

- Donate to someone else that is willing and have the time to port Replicant to it, with postage paid by the recipient. Alternatively, it can given in person if the recipient is based in London/UK.

- It would be nice if I got to port Replicant to the phone myself, but with my firstborn coming soon + professional obligations the rate of progress would be glacial.

I believe it is a good phone to port Replicant onto, as the Desire HD is the direct successor to the HTC Dream if I am not mistaken and should fare well.

In any case let me know what you think.

That's very kind of you but I (being the main developer of the project) am not interested in the device since it runs a Qualcomm platforms that is very bad for freedom and security/privacy.

If you find someone interested, I think it would still be a waste of valuable time. Anyone interested in helping Replicant should better work on another device.

Sadly, it is not.

If you want to somehow make this device useful to Replicant, I guess the best thing to do is for you to sell it second hand and donate the money to the Replicant project so that it can help us buy other devices that are better for freedom and security/privacy!
