replicant update on a samsung S3 i9300

Added by E D over 8 years ago

Hello,

I have replicant installed on my samsung i9300. I would like to update to the latest version (4.2 0004).

I would like to be sure about the way to proceed from the replicant installation page for the i9300.

1. Put the replicant image at the root of the internal SD card, this step is OK
2. Put the device in download mode, plug it to my computer and use the heimdall utility to install the recovery image.
3. Make sure the device reboots to recovery and choose the new replicant image to install.
4. Complete the installation by wiping all cache and user data

Is that correct ?

If I wipe all data, does it wipe all my custom settings ? What about the installed applications (from f-droid) ?
If it does wipe all my settings, is this step mandatory ? or can I safely skip it ?

Also, I have some non-free firmware installed to make the wifi and bluetooth to work. Do I need to reinstall them ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Best regards.

Hello,

After successful upgrade, I am no more able to use adb, in fact the usb connexion does not work anymore.

Setting the USB connexion to mutimedia or photo does not survive : as soon as I return to the USB connexion option panel, none of the option is activated.

I looked into the android logs, I can see lots of USB errors.

When I plug an USB cable from the phone to the host computer, nothing appears in the host computer logs, adb does not find the device.

I really had no problems before.

Did you experience such issues ? What can I do ?

Best regards.

EDIT : it really seems to be a USB problem before an adb one, for whenever I plug the phone into a host computer (windows or linux), nothing happens, either one the phone or the host computer.

In a shell type "setprop persist.sys.usb.config mass_storage,adb" as root does not help but does not lead to any error messages.

I am tempted to make a factory reset, does it also wipe out all my user data ?

It suddenly worked again after a reboot without any changes apart from what I did in previous posts.

Adb works seamlessly ...
