Heimdall issue - Samsung Galaxy SIII

Added by Hugh Mayfield almost 10 years ago

Hi folks,

I hope someone can help me.

I'm trying to install Replicant 4.2 0001 on my Galaxy SIII i9300. I've got as far as putting the phone into download mode ready to flash the recovery image with Heimdall. The phone says:

"ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: GT-I9300
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: No
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Official

Downloading...
Do not turn off target!!"

When I try the command "heimdall flash --BOOT recovery.img --RECOVERY recovery.img" Heimdall produces the following output:

"Initialising connection...
Detecting device...
ERROR: Failed to access device. libusb error: -3"

If I try "heimdall detect" it outputs:

"Device detected"

Please can anyone help me fix this error?

Thanks, Hugh

Have you got any other USB port to choose from?
If so, you might want to try another one. At least, this worked for me a while ago when I encountered the same problem.

Thanks for the tip Jonas, unfortunately trying another USB port made no difference.

Would be very grateful for any other ideas.

Thanks Jonas, that worked. I've got Replicant installed and working now. Super duper!

Good to know! I've been having the same kind of issue with heimdall on some setups, hopefully, I'll know what to do next time.
