N7000 4.2 is slow (and touch doesn't work); is 4.0 any faster?

Added by Guy Fawkes over 9 years ago

Is 4.0 any faster than 4.2 on the N7000?

Can't try it myself because I can't find installation instructions for 4.0 on the N7000.

p.s. only s-pen works on 4.2 for me, touch does not. Touch works fine in cyanogenmod.

It's not really so much faster. N7000 has always been very slow with Replicant.

We don't provide instructions for previous versions of Replicant but you can look at the wiki history, at a date that matches the release of the latest 4.0 images.

That's not normal. Please open a ticket if you think this is related to Replicant and attach dmesg (GettingLogs). Touch works perfectly fine here!

After having cyanogenmod on it for a month I tried replicant again - and inexplicably, touch works now. I've gotten used to the low framerate, and I disable rotation since it makes the whole screen go entirely black for for a bit, which is confusing at times when one unintentionally causes the rotation.

I had a similar problem with installing 4.2.002 on the N7000 over the stock Android (embarrassed to say I don't know what version it was). Don't know what sort of speed to expect but I didn't have touch. After reading this thread I decided to try installing Cyanogenmod and then Replicant to see if I got similar results as Guy Fawkes. On a whim, after installing the recovery kernel thing from the cm site I decided to try installing Replicant with it. It seems to work fine now!

The recovery image we ship (CWM) should be about the same as CyanogenMod's (it comes directly from the CyanogenMod sources).

Well, I must admit, I did install CyanogenMod on the device before making the Repliant port, so maybe there is something there that makes touch work on Replicant (perhaps a touchscreen firmware update or something). If the issue seems recurring, perhaps we should advise installing Cyanogenmod first.
