New to replicant, questions about installing
Added by Cody Goodman over 10 years ago
Hi, I have an LG Motion 4G. I see that it is not supported? How much work would I have to do to support it, or is there a chance it may already work? What would I have to do to make it work (I'm a computer programmer, though not much android experience which I assume replicant is based off of?).
Thanks,
Cody

- The kernel is prebuilt, so it might be signed, which is a no-go for Replicant
- The phone uses a qualcomm platform, which is known to require a lot of blobs that are hard to replace
- The CM port has a lot of blobs in it (and they are part of the repo, which is a problem)
The work to have Replicant on it seems huge!
Also I moved this to Suggestions for new devices. Be sure to read the TargetsEvaluation too.

Replicant support for this device is impossible, as its network type is CDMA.

Thanks for the replies guys, I currently use MetroPCS and I'm afraid that I won't be able to get cyanogenmod or replicant working on any of their phones :/
I believe I could get a samsung galaxy s3 and that would work? From what I've researched, I could pick up an old nexus one and activate it with metropcs?
Thanks for your help.

You can see our list of supported devices and the features that work on them here: http://redmine.replicant.us/projects/replicant/wiki/ReplicantStatus. The Galaxy S3 is indeed the best device we support right now, with fast graphics and a high-quality camera (you can thank Mr. Kocialkowski for his ingenious efforts to add camera support on this device). If you want a mid-range device with easy installation, I recommend the Nexus S, which has a reasonable camera and an easy installation process.
