Hi guys

Just curious if this hardware can be supported. it is officially suported by cyanogenmod and works well.
cheers

It'd be nice to look at the UMTS variant (GT-I9500) first to see whether graphics are fast enough or not. The UMTS version will most likely have a modem compatible with our free RIL while I9505 very likely uses a Qualcomm modem for LTE, which uses the QMI protocol. There seems to be an implementation of the QMI protocol at freedesktop.org, but I can"t tell how complete it is or whether it'll actually work on phones. If you own the phone already, you could greatly help us by providing details such as a "logcat -b radio" log.

Hi Paul,

I've attached the log hopefully it will be usefull to you. if there's anything else I can do just let me know

thanks

Yeah, actually, it's very helpful. I may get back to you eventually for more infos in case we decide porting to LTE devices should be taken in account.

Are there any new developments here? I think porting to the Galaxy S4, which is currently a very up-to-date model, would be a big step in popularity for Replicant. When I mentioned Replicant to a friend, he was disappointed to learn that its support was limited to the Galaxy S3.

We have to wait for Replicant 4.2 to be ready, then we can think of porting to the Galaxy S4. We'll probably get there as it's a very popular device, but there is no guarantee it'll be usable (fast enough). Though we simply cannot port to every single good target out there, we (I) have to make choices in the spare time I have.

I'm surprised that you should use "I". Is Mr. Carliki really that absent from this project? Have we finally lost our last original developer? Are you finally alone in your effort?

I mean that I'm the one actually working on the devices. GNUtoo is still around, he takes part in the decisions but I'm the one working the technical edge nowadays. Look at the commits in https://gitorious.org/replicant/ and you'll have an idea.

To continue from our discussion on the LG G2, the GT-I9505 indeed uses Qualcomm (http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Jfltexx_Info). CyanogenMod does not currently have an official port to the GT-I9500, but I found an unofficial one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2294176 The Chinese version (GT-I9502) also uses Exynos, but I couldn't find a CM port to it.

RE: Galaxy S4 (gt-i9505) - Added by Linus Drumbler over 10 years ago

I found an unofficial i9500 port, this time with device source code! https://github.com/intervigilium/android_device_samsung_i9500 Here's the kernel source code, just to be safe: https://github.com/intervigilium/android_kernel_samsung_exynos5410 This device has a surprising variety of blobs: https://github.com/intervigilium/android_device_samsung_i9500/blob/cm-10.2/proprietary-files.txt

RE: Galaxy S4 (gt-i9505) - Added by Paul Kocialkowski over 10 years ago

Yes I knew about it already. Looking again at the proprietary files, I'm a bit afraid the firmwares for audio would prevent it from working out of the box on Replicant!

RE: Galaxy S4 (gt-i9505) - Added by Paul Kocialkowski almost 10 years ago

Thanks, I have noticed that too. This is CM 11 so it won't make it to Replicant 4.2. Still, looks like a promising future target :)

Hi there,
I wondered if there is still hope for this device ? :)

RE: Galaxy S4 (gt-i9505) - Added by Jack K over 6 years ago

I'm no expert, but looking at https://github.com/LineageOS/android_device_samsung_jfltexx/blob/cm-14.1/device-proprietary-files.txt it looks like the blobs for the audio are no longer present, but there are some "Radio" and "Qualcomm framework" blobs - hopefully the radio blobs have good free replacements (Samsung-RIL?) and the Qualcomm (framework) stuff is ok to just do without (am I being optimistic?).

That said, I was under the impression that the higher resolution screen on this device would make it very slow without 3D acceleration. I guess someone could try building Replicant for it and seeing how it performed...

RE: Galaxy S4 (gt-i9505) - Added by Jack K over 6 years ago

Wait, I just realised that can't be right. There must be more blobs for the graphics, right? I don't know why they appear not to be listed.
