Jolla Tablet

Do you think the upcoming Jolla Tablet (http://jolla.com/tablet) is hardware free enough for Replicant? Of course it is at least by now NOT supported by CyanogenMod.

On the other hand, if these Jolla folks live up to their advertising "We believe in privacy", the other conditions ought to come closer to the ideal target than most of the mainstream hardware. Will you keep an eye on it or will there be no chance?

Thank you anyway!

I couldn't find precise documentation about the hardware. They only mention an Intel 64b platform. I was told that new Intel platforms would not use PowerVR GPUs anymore but Intel Graphics, which may be nice. However, those probably still run a proprietary BIOS.
Let me know if you find more relevant technical information about it.

Sailfish OS contains a lot of proprietary software, so I wouldn't be surprised if they totally overlooked the freedom aspect of their device. There is already a Jolla smartphone using a Qualcomm SoC, so that figures…

Oh boy, that's all but promising. But I confess, it was predictable. For example they write: "We store and process your personal data (if any) on third party servers (”Hosting Providers”) located in in the European Economic Area".
When you look closer, these are Amazon servers. So what's the use of being located in the EU? I ought to have concluded earlier that Jolla is not sincere.

Carsten Munk posted some facts about the hardware to come and about the respective drivers:

It's a shame they aren't considering writing their own user-space drivers, that would be a way to make their device better regarding freedom. Apparently, they want to keep it "hackable" and freedom is not their goal, as usual.
