Cowon DAP: a more secure device?

Added by repli CAN about 9 years ago

It seems to me that a device without GPS & cell tower functionality (trackability), but with WiFi for VoIP would be a more secure phone. Yes, I know WiFi isn't the most secure protocol, but at least one could avoid GPS & cell tower tracking.
The Cowon iAudio Z2 or D3, for example, are WiFi enabled Android devices with a speaker, microphone & headset jack. I have successfully used this device already as a VoIP phone.
I know this is a very long shot as there are so few users of this device, but it does seem to be one of the most secure options as far as proprietary hardware is concerned because of the lack of GPS & cell tower trackability.
Another advantage is that Cowon has a devoted grassroots following as shown by their very active unofficial fan forums due to being extremely high audio quality at an affordable price: http://iaudiophile.net/forums/index.php

Those seem to be running old Android versions at first look, there might be incompatibilities with the kernel for new version.

One would have to carry our a full technical evaluation of those devices to know precisely what they're worth. The idea of having Wi-Fi-only devices and using VOIP is not bad!
