Unable to boot into download mode on a Galaxy S

Added by Boaz Boaz over 10 years ago

Hi.

I know this isn't directly a Replicant problem, but it's a problem I'm having installing Replicant and I thought someone here might have an idea.

I recently installed Replicant on my Nexus S, with kind help from people on this Forum, and I'm very satisfied with it. Now I want to install it on a friend's Galaxy S.

It's a SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 currently running Android 2.3.5 GINGERBREAD.UCKK4 with kernel version 2.6.35.7-I897UCKK4-CL614489.

The instructions say first to install Cyanogenmod using these instructions: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/index.php?title=Install_CM_for_galaxysmtd .

On step 3, it says to boot into download mode by holding down Home & Volume Down. However, When I hold Home & Volume Down, nothing happens. Until I can resolve this problem I can't install Cyanogenmod, and until I can install Cyanogenmod, I can't install Replicant.

So anyway, just wondering if anyone has any ideas. Thanks.

Boaz

You have the wrong kind of Galaxy S. Only the international GSM flavour of the Galaxy S (GT-I9000) is supported by Replicant; local North American flavours of devices are not supported. Not even CyanogenMod supports the variant of Galaxy S that you have, as can be seen on the installation page you linked.

Oh. So I cannot install Replicant on this phone, nor even Cyanogenmod? Well if that's the case, better to know then not. Thanks for letting me know.

Maybe CyanogenMod is possible, but it won't be the galaxysmtd flavor (look at their wiki, you'll find the relevant infos there). In any case, there is indeed no Replicant support for that Galaxy S version.
