Is it safe to install crespo build on crespo4g?

Added by hp 420 over 10 years ago

Like the title says.

I don't care about the radio. The phone isn't activated and never will be again. as long as wifi works, I'm all set.

So is it safe without risking a brick?

In any case, you won't brick your device if you flash using fastboot and don't reflash the bootloader, you'll always be able to recovery through fastboot.
However I cannot tell whether it will work or not -- it's possible that Replicant doesn't even boot. Best case scenario, it can only mess around with the modem, so you'll probably have to disable the RIL daemon.

I thought that may be the case, but just thought I should check first. I've never flashed a crespo rom on a crespo4g so I have no experience to refer to in this aspect.

thanks!

Hi there, I was thinking about trying this with my crespo4g and was wondering if you had given it a try. I'm in the same boat, no plans to use the phone's radio at all.

I never had the occasion of building and running Replicant on crespo4g. As far as I know it's the same hardware except that its modem is CDMA. That means you have to add CDMA support to our RIL (Samsung-RIL). If you don't want to use the modem at all, you can probably build yourself images of Replicant for crespo4g quite easily, but we won't release them officially.
