[solved] "developer options are not available for this user" message

Added by Fil Lupin almost 7 years ago

Hello,
I installed replicant 6 a few days ago on my i9300.

I remember having accessed to several options which disappeared, for instance, when accessing Settings/developer option, I currently got "developer options are not available for this user" message while I remember getting a complete menu.
I also can't configure my phone to access it as a USB keystick. I simply can't find the option I used a few days ago.
I can't access to Settings/User option, it does not open.

Thank you for your help.

edit: When in Settings/About phone and clicking 7 times on Kernel version, I got a "Device Id is not available on this build" and SELinux is defined to enforcing (it seems to me it was different after installation but I am not sure).
However I am sure I had these rights after installation since I got adb access and USB keystick access to transfer files.
I can not access to my phone with adb, I do not know if this is linked.

Could it be my device which has been "unrooted" during process? I had to flash modem image back when I had EFS problem.
I have access to recovery and download mode.

Having access to backup functionalities, adb and all root access is essential for a phone.

This issue especially even prevent to save phone data before a full data wipe out and new good installation since it would loose every data.

Do you know how to get back root access?

Since no one knows if how to get root access on replicant 6, I will try to reinstall replicant 4.2 which worked before.
I hope it will at least allow to backup every data.

Then if I have motivation, I will try to install again replicant 6.

Perhaps this issue is linked to another one (https://redmine.replicant.us/boards/3/topics/14338) but since there is no answer to this one, I am not sure...

It is perhaps linked, but when stopping my phone, and starting it again, every widget, icons in the lower menu and on the desktop have disappeared.
Same issue when restart (soft and hard).

I imagine some missing rights could provoke rewriting of default menu and desktop.

Do you have any idea of what could provoke this?

I install again a replicant 4.2 but it didn't work since phone was stuck in startup mode (big old replicant logo):

heimdall flash --BOOT recovery.img --RECOVERY recovery.img

It was then blocked
I only got occasion to use adb to backup some data.

I then reinstall original firmware and then back again, install a replicant 4.2:

heimdall flash --BOOT boot.img --SYSTEM system.img --RECOVERY recovery.img --RADIO modem.bin --HIDDEN hidden.img --BOOTLOADER sboot.bin --TZSW tz.img

I wiped out cache and then install again a second time:
heimdall flash --BOOT boot.img --SYSTEM system.img --RECOVERY recovery.img --RADIO modem.bin --HIDDEN hidden.img --BOOTLOADER sboot.bin --TZSW tz.img

Then, I install again replicant 4.2:

heimdall flash --BOOT recovery.img --RECOVERY recovery.img

I then wiped out cache, but I did not wiped out data/factory reset because I would like to keep my installed data if possible.
adb sideload replicant-4.2-i9300.zip

but it didn't work and phone was stuck again in startup (big old replicant logo).

I install then replicant 6 images:

heimdall flash --BOOT recovery-i9300.img --RECOVERY recovery-i9300.img

and arrives ont he new replicant recovery mode (ee https://redmine.replicant.us/boards/3/topics/14338?r=14342).

I then apply update/Apply from ADB:

adb sideload replicant-6.0-i9300.zip

I Wiped out cache and factory/reset and start again my phone.
It seems to work, with root access back.

I did not loose any data on my sdcard.
