new recovery mode in replicant 6

Added by Fil Lupin almost 7 years ago

After installing replicant 6 (on my i9300), I saw the recovery mod changed and I would like to check everything is ok.

The boot follows these steps :

- logo "Samsung Galaxy SIII, GT-I9300" with red "!" up-left in the window
- Replicant recovery window, with a menu with 4 options: reboot system now, apply update, factory reset, advanced
- there is not anymore an option to backup on sdcard.

Since the old CWM is not anymore accessible and has been replaced by this "replicant recovery", is it normal ?
If yes, I understand it is not necessary to root the phone anymore.

It seems recovery mode lakes an adb activation menu. Is adb active by default?

Since this new recovery does not allow to backup to sdcard, is there any problem to reinstall former recovery CWM ?
Does anyone already tried this ?

Sounds fine. For the backup feature, see #1802. ADB is by default only active for sideload. If ADB was enabled in the developer settings and the connecting PC was authorized, then it's also active in the recovery. Only when the device is encrypted, ADB stays inactive (except for sideload).

I didn't try to backup a Replicant 6.0 installation with the Replicant 4.2 recovery (if that's what you mean).

I wanted to backup partitions to check if I can get back in the case of a replicant 6 crash.

I noticed this issue when I needed to backup partition (https://redmine.replicant.us/boards/3/topics/14337). I found another solution but I imagine this case could be encountered by other people.

The first goal is then to backup partitions to avoid loosing anything before making a new installation when the phone does not boot with root access and refuse to give access to ADB.
That was why the solution of recovery mode sounds a good idea to me.
It seems in this specific case of root access refused, the recovery mode does not give access to partition backup.

Is there any other solution to allo backup if ADB access is refused by the phone?
