Update from Replicant 6.0 0001 to Replicant 6.0 0002 on S3

Added by pitr lolo over 6 years ago

Hello guys,

can someone explain how to update Replicant from 6.0 0001 to 6.0 0002 on encrypted S3 without losing any user data (apps etc) ? Is this even possible ?
EDIT: not sure if it makes any difference, but I've installed the 0001 with prebuilt version.

Thanks !

I don't know. I had to perform a full factory reset to upgrade my encrypted S3 with Replicant 4.2 installed to Replicant 6.0

Haven't encrypted the phone yet because one app I use has no way to backup data and I lost it when a did 4.2 to 6.0 update. Had no problem updating 6.0 0001 to 0002 with the phone unencrypted.

I'm never do that, but technically TWRP can decrypt your phone and upgrade system.

You can upgrade from 0001 to 0002 on an encrypted phone without factory reset. Just follow the installation instructions for your device and skip the parts that do the data wipe or the full factory reset.

hey guys, unfortunately when I boot to recovery (after flashing new one with heimdall) and try to apply update->choose from emulated, I receive following error:
E: failed to mount /data (invalid argument) Installation aborted. Any advice please ?

edit: now I also cannot boot android as well, so phone is not usable at the moment, since it still boots into recovery

I was able to update it via ADB, update from emulated doesn't work (probably due to encryption)? One thing worth mentioning: ADB available in trisquel 7 repositories is 1.0.31, but the update itself needs Android Debug Bridge version 1.0.32 in order to succeed - which is a sad thing.

Yes, confirming that upgrading from 6.0 0001 (encrypted) to 6.0 0002 works fine without a wipe/reset when using ADB sideload. I wouldn't expect emulated storage to work.
