Phone reboots continuosly after F-Droid apps upgraded

Added by Xan VFR over 6 years ago

I first had this problem with Call Recorder, and I could solved it uninstalling the app one time the phone booted and could get F-Droid to work between messages of apps/processes crashing/stopping but, today, after upgrading Document Viewer (my main concern was to upgrade Kontalk) the problem showed up again and now I can't find a solution.

I don't quite understand whose responsibility is for this failure, but for what I have found on the Internet, I think it's Google's because of some changes in its Android SDK, that affects all Android ecosystem (Replicant, LineageOS,. etc.) with a memory bug:

- https://gitlab.com/fdroid/fdroiddata/issues/969#note_45686081

I have now two Galaxy S3 with Replicant 6.0 00002 installed I can only use as regular phones (calls, SMS and web browsing) because the minute I update any app in F-Droid the phone keeps rebooting over and over again (I don't have my backup phone with data enabled, but I connected it to WiFi to warn my family and friends through Kontalk and F-Droid automatically upgraded outdated apps without I noticing it). I tried cache, data an full factory reset (I had to do this in the phone I have encrypted - backup one) and reinstalling Replicant last 6.0 image, and they boot, asks me to configure the phone, but the moment I upgrade F-Droid to the last version the phone goes back to infinite reboot loop.

So, my questions are:

- Does anyone know a solution for this so I can use back these phones normally?
- Is there any solution on Replicant's side, or should I look/ask for it on F-Droid's side?

I'm just asking because I'm no expert and right know I'm lost and don't know what to do (other than going back using a "dumb/regular" phone).

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: This should probably go in Replicant Usage section. My mistake; sorry.

I don't know if this helps at all, but I upgraded F-Droid to last version in fresh-installed Replicant 6.0.1 (no problem), re-launched upgraded F-Droid (no problem) and tried to install Kontalk 4.1.1 (phone crashes) while doing 'adb logcat > crashlog.txt'. This is the part of the log from the first kontalk reference in the log, until phone crashed (I've removed some personal WiFi information from the log with XXX): See attached log

This issue should be fixed with the latest release.
