No SIM card issue, found a way around

Added by Anonymous almost 6 years ago

Dear all,

I have tried to use Replicant for a few weeks on an N7100 (phone A). I had the common "no SIM card" issue (card coming from my previous phone B). I tried a few potential solutions found in this forum, amongst which the stock ROM reinstall and the files permission modification. None worked. I thought it would come from my SIM card, so I ordered a new one. Did not work. Crazy thing was that I have another phone (phone C) with another SIM card that works just fine on the N7100 with Replicant.
Finally, I found some info about the activation/PIN code setting of the SIM card being potentially the root cause of the issue. As the new SIM card that I had ordered previously for testing had been activated (with PIN code setting) through phone B, I thought I would order another one and try to activate/set the PIN code directly within the N7100 (phone A) under Replicant. It finally worked. Maybe that's not the reason why it worked, but at least it did and then I thought I should let you know.

Now I need to make the Technoetical wifi USB adaptor work, which does not with the small USB-micro connector. I need to try an OTG power Y cable.

Best regards to all.

Another similar anecdote can be found in this comment: https://redmine.replicant.us/issues/1783#note-32

A little update,

So I was running Replicant 4.2 because this bug prevented me from using 6.0. Inspired by the anecdotes above, I ordered a new SIM myself, activated it on a fresh 6.0 installation and it worked. To me, this does seem like a workaround worth trying for those suffering from this. No idea what is happening, but these are encouraging stories anyway.

My device is i9100.

Many thanks Juha for this feedback. Indeed, I believe too that this is worth trying for those in a similar situation.
