no Sim found in Replicant 6.0 on S3 I9305

Added by Pintade Rabougrie over 6 years ago

Good afternoon,
I have just bought a second hand S3 4G to put replicant on it. The installation process worked perfect. Gpg check sha check Heimdall install img on Sd card etc.. everything worked fine.
BUT when i put the phone on it says "no SIM" inserted.
Do you have any suggestion ?

P.S. i have no idea if the phone was simlocked or not before the installation.
Does that matters ?

I have read the threads about the files authirisation.
Is it the good access configuration i have here :

I have been at a shop to day and the guy said my replicant did not have the EFS file with imei number : this is why the sim did not work.
He reflashed android 4.4.4
Now i have to learn... a lot. and i will try a new replicant installation ones i will be confident.

Hello Philippe,

It seems from the online documentation that the S3 4G (i9305) is not maintained whereas the S3 3G (i9300) is. The status table shows that i9305 is unfinished and that its telephony is missing. It might be worth taking a look at this documentation and eventually try something else with the i9300 if you wish.
Anyway, missing SIM cards are a recurring issue on other devices as well and there are a number of potential fixes to try that you will be able to find on this forum.

Best regards,
Julien

I've had a look around the forum but not got anywhere useful. Would you be able to point to a post or two that could help with this?

cheers

Hi the i9305 doesn't have support for the modem yet, so "no sim found" is just because the support is missing. If you want to help with the development there is infomation at https://redmine.replicant.us/projects/replicant/wiki/QMI-RIL and also forkbomb (on IRC) will be looking into supporting the modem with mainline kernel. I got the mainline kernel booting with AOSP master but it will be still a long way until all bells and whistles work.

ah, i should have been more clear: my problem is with the i9300 not detecting the SIM, as detailed in several bugs on the tracker. i didn't realise the i9305 was failing for different reasons.

Hi Joonas,
Thank you for the information, I already had read the sentence "read the fucking manual" but not the manual... :)
Your proposal to help for programming is very touching but i won't.
I begun with linux only 4 years ago because my laptop was alive and still is whereas my van broke down and i had no chance to go wanking on the beach anymore (it still cost me a lot to understand lines of C/bash scripts).
At Robin I have found this thing
http://www.x-drivers.com/catalog/flash/mobile_phones/companies/qualcomm/models/qpst/12051
On the forums they say you can save the EFS partition with it and then reload it on the phone with Heimdall to fix some "no sim card problem" (unfortunatley for me i do not have any computer working on windows).
Maybe it would work for you... and maybe for the I9305 as well...

Joonas Thank you for taking the time to reply and for all the big works !!

err, is this what you meant to say?

perhaps an edit is necessary.

Hi Philippe,
I understand you are stuck because you have only a GNU/Linux computer.
You can use Heimdall with GNU/Linux so having no computer working on windows should not be an issue (see https://packages.debian.org/sid/heimdall-flash for example).
Hope this will help.
