seem unable to install 0003 or 0002

Added by matti christensen 6 months ago

Hello

i've done this all for several phones, five of which are gt-i9100, but now i have trouble...

- followed https://redmine.replicant.us/projects/replicant/wiki/RecoveryInstallationWithHeimdall with no issues and recovery seems to work

- done factory reset, etc. as i'm working on empty phone which had 4.2 000n

- i've downloaded 0003 image several times and tried to install but it crashes to verification

- downloaded also 0002 image and same situation

any ideas ?

Thanks /mc

Hi Matti,
so you made work a minor version, do you confirm this was a 4.2.0004 (last one) or was it another one?

Then you downloaded another minor version and tried to install it and it crashed during verification.
Could you confirm you downloaded it from https://redmine.replicant.us/projects/replicant/wiki/ReplicantImages#Replicant-42 ?

Regards.

Thanks for your answer :-)

like this;

-- gt-i9100 had some minor version of 4.2 and i wanted to install 6 minor version 0003

-- pushed correct recovery-i9100.img first with "heimdall flash --KERNEL path/to/recovery-<yourdevice>.img --RECOVERY path/to/recovery-<yourdevice>.img" as said on https://redmine.replicant.us/projects/replicant/wiki/RecoveryInstallationWithHeimdall

-- recovery appears to work as expected and i did full factory reset because this phone is empty = no data etc..

-- installing correct replicant-6.0-i9100.zip from sdcard1 fails and complains about verifying whole file signature

-- then pushed correct recovery-i9100.img with "heimdall flash --KERNEL path/to/recovery-i9100.img" as said on https://redmine.replicant.us/projects/replicant/wiki/GalaxyS2I9100Installation because https://redmine.replicant.us/projects/replicant/wiki#Replicant-installation-and-update says gt-i9100 is not converted yet to the new installation instructions (?!)

-- recovery appears to work as expected and i did full factory reset because this phone is empty = no data etc..

-- installing correct replicant-6.0-i9100.zip from sdcard1 fails and complains about verifying whole file signature

No problem, I just want to be sure to understand your problem.

It seems the documentation was not up-t-o-date, thank you for you question which allowed to update it.
I have a few more questions to understand well your case:

0. Are you sure your device is a GT-I9100, i.e. Samsung Galaxy S2?

1. I am not sure to understand: do you have a Replicant 4.2 version installed before or not?

2. Did you check signature of recovery like explained in https://redmine.replicant.us/projects/replicant/wiki/RecoveryInstallationWithHeimdall#Check-the-signature-of-the-recovery ? Was the result OK?

3. If and only if answer to questions 0 and 2. is YES, did you try the installation with adb sideload as written in https://redmine.replicant.us/projects/replicant/wiki/GalaxyS2I9100Installation#Using-ADB-sideload ?

RE: seem unable to install 0003 or 0002 - Added by matti christensen 6 months ago

heh

0) i am absolutely sure and i have installed replicant on gt-i9100 ( s2 ) many times w many versions ( same goes for some other phones/tablets also )

1) this phone had 4.2 as i started to push 6 ( 0003 ) in it

2. no i did not

3. no i did not

( i'll download the recovery again, check the signature, and get back to this ...)

Wolfgang updated his gpg key after it expired. If you run 'gpg --recv-key 5816A24C10757FC4' does it update his key? If it updates, it should work.

Hi Matti, you should perhaps try

3. If and only if answer to questions 0 and 2. is YES, did you try the installation with adb sideload as written in https://redmine.replicant.us/projects/replicant/wiki/GalaxyS2I9100Installation#Using-ADB-sideload ?

It says "Good signature" so you're all good. Proceed to the next step in the installation instructions now.

Hi Matti,
could you let us know if it works?
Cheers

Hello, and sorry of not answering for long ...

1) at the moment i think the motherboard of gt-i9100 in guestion is faulty = no need to worry this any more

2) i have several gt-i9100 phones of which two seem to have somewhat faulty mb + various parts -- and they are getting useless for me because of small screen ( i'm rather old ) and difficulties in buying good enough batteries = if you think you would have use for them, i might send them over

3) with you i bump on the same issues as very often w various free software projects etc. = i'm an old school minimalist who builds much of computer systems from source ( not the phone - ask why if interested ) - and for instance your binary 'tools' do not work for me because they are not statically linked and assume that i have some main stream GNU/Linux... if you had the source of the 'tools' to download it would be just great cause i just wont download all the google bloatware for this minimal need

i'll stay waiting for Replicant progress :-)
