Installing a newer version of Iptables and Ip6tables with version 4.2?

Hello,
First a big thanks for the Replicant project. I am aware of FSF guide lines GNU/Linux versions, but it wasn't before a little while ago that I got to know about Replicant via fsfe.org. To me a dream come true.
Regarding the subject. I am still learning about the Replicant project, so I am not sure which version of Iptables being used. Anyhow, to follow the newest releases of Iptables is it possible to install them with Replicant 4.2?

On Replicant 4.2, iptables says: iptables v1.4.11.1
If you want to go with the latest release, you'll have to get Replicant's source code, remove the current iptables, get the latest one and perhaps add modifications for the Android build system, if it's not already there.
Note that most devices run on the 3.0 kernel and I'm not sure they have all the kernel options to take advantage of iptable's functionalities. You can however build a kernel with whatever driver is missing.

Thank you very much for your reply. Kind of interesting that it is still version 1.4.11.1. At the moment I am still using Android 4.0 which is with v. 1.4.11.1. The time stamp is sep. 5th 2012, but v. 1.4.11.1 over at netfilter.org is June 8th 2011. Not sure why the difference.
Regarding editing Replicant's source code and remove the current iptables I think this sounds interesting from a technical point of view, but I am still not there. I would very much like to know how to do it some time soon.
