Donating to the Replicant Project

Added by LaurentZG the Replicant Fan about 10 years ago

Paul,

As you know when buying a new full version of MS Windows one pay full price. Then after that one pay a smaller price for each upgrade offer.

With this in mind I am wondering if you could please honestly tell me what you think would be a fair donation for each new release of Replicant?

As we all are aware of Replicant is free software in the broadest sense, but as probably all of us are also aware of there is an enormous amount of lines you have to go through for each new release. So I think it might be important that you get a sign of appreciation that equals all the efforts that you put into it. Maybe you have a different philosophy with different perspectives on this, so just my thoughts.

Quite honestly, we already collected more money that we expected to. The current situation of our funds will cover the present and future needs for new devices as well as travel budget to give talks and animate workshops about Replicant. However, if we're looking to push Replicant to the next level, we'll probably need a lot more of money, for instance to hire a full or part time developer to work on the project.

Your generosity is greatly appreciated, though you might want to look at other projects that are more in need of funding right now. If you really want to donate to Replicant, I think any amount in the $20-50 range is good for a personal financial contribution.

Sorry for my very late reply. Since last time I've been ill until just a few days ago.

Thanks for sharing financial status info on the project. I am very glad to read that things are going so well. You know, we would like it to keep on forever ;)

Regarding contributions. When comparing it to other payed for OS's $50 isn't bad at all. With other common payed for OS's there is also the unpleasent feeling of not knowing if snooping is going on or not. I consider the latter as an extra payment on top.

Thanks Paul
