Cannot install Replicant - Stuck on boot screen

Added by TheDoctor n almost 10 years ago

Hi,

So, I seem to have a problem while installing Replicant :)

My phone is a Galaxy S3, GT-I9300, and CyanogenMod was installed on it before it went completely bugged and could not pass the boot screen (screen with "Samsung GS3 - I9300").
That's when I decided to install Replicant, following the tutorial provided by this webiste (he is awesome, well done :), everything is detailed and understandable).

Though I do think I did not do anything wrong about that one, I still get the same mistake : stuck on the boot screen (just after having installed it with an external SD and made a full wipe :I tried with and without the full wipe, and I even tried it with a Davnink cache wipe).

So, I come here to see if you can help me in any way :)

Best regards,
TheDoctor

(ps : Pardon my english... I'm french :))

Maybe double-check that you don't have the LTE version, I9305, in which case Replicant cannot work. If recovery can boot, it's probably not the case though.

Perhaps your memory is simply compromised (read: defective)? Kernel logs (adb shell dmesg) from recovery after the installation, as well as the recovery installation logs (/cache/recovery/* IIRC) should give details if that's the case. Please provide these :)

Also, if it's too much trouble for you to write in English, you might want to write in French (ce n'est pas un problème pour moi), though the forums (as well as the wiki and the rest) should preferably remain in English only.

Hi again :)

English is not a problem to me :) Though, if I mispell something or do any other mistake, don't hesitate to tell me, it will help.

I'm positive I have the I9300 and not the I9305.

But I'm afraid I will have to abandon the idea to install Replicant... Indeed, I did not saw that Replicant do not support GS3's GPS... And I definitly need it to assist me in a hard and daily sports training (among other things).

However, I will not forget to keep you update (I will install CyanogenMod) on the issue's solving, if it can help you (and if I can do something else to help about that, ask :)).

Best regards,
TheDoctor

Hi. As promised, an update.

I finally got it working with CM 10.2.

So, basically, I tried a lot of other things, including the use of Odin, the installation of a stock recovery, some wiping... etc, which dit not work.

From there, I downloaded a stock rom and installed it with Odin, and that was working :) .

So, I installed Clockwork Mod with Heimdall, did a wipe and installed CM 10.2, and that's about everything. Feel free to ask for any more info.

I guess Replicant would work now. But as I said, I need to use the GPS. Sorry, and good luck.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I suppose that some partition was not formatted properly and you could probably have sorted it out using recovery :)
