Heimdall - Frozen at "Checking if protocol is initialised..." - Samsung S3 SIII

Added by sam hung over 9 years ago

First of I'd like to give some info on where I'm at with my phone. As far as I know it's a stock I9300 with no root access at the moment. I can confirm that I was able to get developer options, set usb debugging, set adb mode, and get access to my phone through adb on my computer. I'm using a stock samsung galaxy s3 cable, actually have three of them, from three different manufacturers, each cable works with adb.

So now I'm stuck trying to flash the recovery images with heimdall. I boot into the downloader, ODIN MODE, plug the cable in and run the command. It freezes at "Checking if protocol is initialised...", nothing else happens.

If I do heimdall detect, it reads Device detected.

You might want to try another build of heimdall (or build it yourself). I have experienced various issues with heimdall and usually, one just turns out to work while others fail. You might want to double check that you are doing this with sufficient permissions (so mostly, make sure you're doing it as root).

Thank you very much that fixed the problem, the frozen version was 1.4 RC2, the one that worked was 1.4.0

Sorry for necrobumping. To add another data point, Heimdall v1.4.1 works for Samsung i9000 where v1.4 RC2 from Replicant 4.2 doesn't.
(It's not the only thing that seems a little out of date when working through the instructions to install Replicant 4.2 from source on i9000)
