installing Replicant on Samsung Galaxy SL I9003

Added by private property over 9 years ago

Hello, I'm new to this forum ...and also kind of new to the world of smartphones.
I own an old Galaxy SL I9003 and was wondering if it's possible to install Replicant on this device.
After reading a bit in internet about the different android distributions available, Replicant seems the only one I feel really comfortable with, for various reasons.
Since there doesn't seem to be any (official or inofficial) build for my phone (or is there?), I thought to go with the one for the Galaxy S1 since it comes closest.
For what i know a Galaxy SL is an after market (cheaper) version of the Galaxy S1 with a different cpu and a different display.
Do you think it could work or would it just fry my phone?
I'd really like to try Replicant on this phone before considering investing money into a more recent/decent device.
I'm now running CM11 on my phone and it seems to work fine.
I'm willing to take a risk if there is a fair chance for succes.
I say thanx for all answers and hope that i put this question in the right part of the forum (if I didn't sorry ...as I said I'm new here)

Definitely the latter.

Thanx for the answer.

"Please read: http://www.replicant.us/about.php#not-listed-install"

I have read the installing instruction before posting.

I just thought it might work anyhow, since for what I found out
(I think on Wikipedia) it's the same phone with a downgrade on cpu and display.

...well as I said I'm new to smartphones but they are just little computers to me
and on my PC the cpu and the display are parts I can actually up/downgrade / change without
having to reinstall drivers ...or even the whole os.

..as long as the motherboard and the graphic card stay the same..

The situation on embedded devices is a bit different as there is not as much run-time detection of the hardware. Most things are statically defined and even on the same platform, a lot of things are wired differently (e.g. the same GPIO can have hundreds of different uses).

..I see..
thanx for the explication.

Anyway, the phone in question died by now ...(not my doing...touch screen stopt working from a day to another under CM11...seems to be a build in bug of this model)
and I'm back to my good old nokia simple, solid and two apps only ...flashlight and bottle opener :)

if ever I'll buy a smartphone I'll make sure it's one from the list of supported devices.

..can you recommend one?
