How to edit the wiki

Added by Federico Leva about 5 years ago

I'd like to add some data to https://redmine.replicant.us/projects/replicant/wiki/TargetsEvaluation but I don't see an edit button. Am I dumb or do I lack some permission? Thanks.

Hi Federico,
and happy new year.
The wiki is not opened by default, so you should ask for permission to edit it.
Please note I am not admin so I do not have rights to give you access.
Regards.

Hi, Federico.

As Fil Lupin has explained, wiki access is restricted.
This is so that documentation proposals can be evaluated before publishing them, to keep the wiki clean and consistent and keep a high quality documentation base.
What kind of edits are you planning?
You can either post a brief description here, or send it to the mailing list
I will ask other administrators to evaluate your proposal, then I can give you wiki access after a positive feedback on that.

Thank you,

Fil

Understood. Given the wiki is such a big deal, I can keep my edits elsewhere.

Please, don't feel offended, it wasn't my intention to push your contribution away.
Mine was not a judgement a priori on the quality of your contribution, but rather a reference to the general entry policy that applies to everyone:

You can help improving the wiki! Wiki editor privileges can be requested by contacting the developers. A short description of the changes and additions you want to make is needed as part of the request. The wiki guidelines should be followed.

We hold wiki contributions in high consideration, and that's precisely why the policy for editing the wiki is so strict in regards to joining authorship.
The wiki policy is built upon precise requirements to maintain a consistent and reliable documentation, so that readers are not mislead by wrong information or simply by differences of meaning in the use of technical terms.
Documentation is incredibly important and sensitive for projects like Replicant.
Maintaining consistency and accuracy would be a tough job if we allowed for anyone that just shows up to the forum to edit the wiki.

This being said, I renew my invitation for you to provide a very brief explanation of the edits you intend to perform.
All I need is a couple of sentences to evaluate your request.
I'm sure you will be up to the task, and I will be very happy to give you wiki permissions.
After all, it's only a one-time presentation of yourself, after which you will be granted complete wiki access.

Respectfully,

Fil
