IMSI-Catcher Detector
Added by christina d about 9 years ago
Anyone knows that if the Android IMSI-Catcher Detector (https://secupwn.github.io/Android-IMSI-Catcher-Detector/) or (https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdfilter=imsi&fdid=com.SecUpwN.AIMSICD) actual works in replicant that the location services are disabled?
Currently the version 0.1.32-alpha-b00 only works on my phone, with the two later ones, the app crashes before opening.

IMHO, I don't >think< the app depends on location services to work properly. I further >think< the app only needs GPS permissions, to "prevent leakage of sensitive GPS data", what is one of the main goals (https://github.com/SecUpwN/Android-IMSI-Catcher-Detector/wiki/Development-Status#application-goals)
A little (FAQ-)statement from the maintainer(s) about the GPS permission: https://github.com/SecUpwN/Android-IMSI-Catcher-Detector/wiki/FAQ#q-i-noticed-that-your-app-uses-gps-isnt-that-dangerous

While I wouldn't recommend using an alpha state version of such a grade of impact software, IMHO I think you'll get better support for that software from the app community here: https://github.com/SecUpwN/Android-IMSI-Catcher-Detector/issues
I played around a bit and try to cut a long story short:- you're right, I also can't open the 0.1.33-alpha-b00 or 0.1.34-alpha-b00 versions, because
- I installed the 0.1.32-alpha-b00 first - to have the same setup as you. It seems (logcat telled) that the SQLite database can't be upgraded from this version to newer ones, because
- I uninstalled this version (0.1.32-alpha-b00) and freshly installed the 0.1.33-alpha-b00 and/or 0.1.34-alpha-b00, which works great. (Also an upgrade from 0.1.33-alpha-b00 to 0.1.34-alpha-b00, by the way). This kind of struggle is what I mean, as I warned from using alpha tagged software シ

Thank you "My Self" for this!
as always you are correct, after uninstalling i was able to install the latest version.
I ll do more testing with the app, cause i know that my city uses IMSI-Catchers, and i ll report back.
There is another app that seems more stable and not in aplha stage (https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdfilter=imsi&fdid=de.srlabs.snoopsnitch) but my device is not supported and i cant really test.
Maybe this thread doesn't need to be in Security section also, the admin should have a look :)
