Some Replicant questions

Added by - - almost 7 years ago

Hi,

I would like to use Replicant on my Galaxy S3 & and have some questions about the project.

1. Is Replicant save enough for use as primary smartphone, I heard some rom's have real security problems?
2. I assume the phone is rooted after installation, is there a way to unroot it?
3. Should I use Replicant 4.2 or 6.0, if I need a secure and private smartphone?
4. What can be done after installation to boost security?

Thank you for your answers :)

Depends on your use case. There are no smartphones that are sufficiently secure for high-risk activity. If your goal is simply to raise the cost of performing an attack (which forces attackers to be more selective about whom they target), then Replicant might be okay.

If you're asking which of [4.2, 6.0] is preferred, definitely 6.0. 4.2 is EOL and isn't getting any security updates going forward.

It is not security linked but I noticed (https://redmine.replicant.us/boards/9/topics/14315) that there is no solution to keep MMS and SMS when moving from replicant 4.2 to 6.
