Orbot 15.5.1-RC-2-multi-SDK23 sends Replicant 6.0.1 into crash/reboot loop
Added by Joe Lee about 7 years ago
I updated Orbot from the Guardian Project repository yesterday and it broke my copy of Replicant 6.0.1 on my Galaxy S3 GT-I9300. It immediately rebooted itself, produced errors about Trebuchet crashing, and eventually went into a cycle of repeated reboots with the same Trebuchet crash errors every time.
How I removed Orbot to make Replicant stop crashing:
1) Power the phone off.
2) Power the phone back on in Safe Mode by holding down the Volume Down button while it boots.
3) Go to Settings -> Apps.
4) Uninstall Orbot.
5) Reboot.

I don't quite understand the problem, but seems Google changed something that causes crashes and reboot loops in Android derivatives as Replicant, LineageOS, CyanogenMod, etc.
I suffer from the same problem with any app

I think I figured the problem out: Google made some changes in it's SDK v27 to prevent memory corruption issues, so developers started upgrading their apps with this "new" SDK, but that changes cause memory corruption issues in Android derivatives such as Replicant when installing or upgrading "SDKv27"-apps.
So, my advice is don't install/upgrade any app or you'll probably end up as I did, with a stock Replicant 6.0 00002 fresh installed and no chance to install apps from F-Droid, until this problem is fixed.
Please, somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the solution to this problem for us, falls in Replicant's side; I mean, there should be a new Replicant version not affected by this issue. I'll be glad to help with any logs, tests I can provide.

This is a big issue. I have been affected as well with certain apps. Many apps are getting updated that cause this issue (for me the nextcloud sms app caused it). I hope replicant will get an update so it can work with these updated apps! I am scared to update any app now.

These reboot loops shouldn't happen anymore with the latest release (0003).
