Samsung Galaxy S2 is stuck on the Replicant Logo when booting, unable to reach neither recovery mode nor download mode.

Added by Sven Erik almost 6 years ago

I installed Replicant 6 on a Samsung Galaxy S2, but I had some issues witht the SIM card and read that it was a somewhat common issue and it didn't seem like it was a common issue on Replicant 4.2.

So I tried to install 4.2 using basically the same method as just installing regular Replicant 6 on a device running Android.

All went okay until it was time to install. The install failed (I do not remember the error message).

So I thought "Oh well it didn't work, well I'll just turn the phone off and boot back to Replicant 6 and use it without SIM card".

Upon booting the phone was stuck on the Replicant logo and has been since. If I turn it off, it just reboots by itself and stucks itself on the Replicant logo again.

I have tried the Volume Up + Home + Power button (while the phone is "on" stuck on the Replicant logo) and then releasing various buttons at various stages. It seems as though I can't reach the recovery mode (or the "bootloader" or whatever you call it).

I have also tried getting back into Download Mode with the volume down + home + power button. This actually work... sort of. It gets me to the warning message display where I must confirm that this is what I want by pressing the volume up button. But that doesn't work. I have tried pressing the volume up button in various ways many times and waiting for longer periods and then pressing again.

If it is something wrong with the volume up button that may be the reason why I am also not able to reach the "recovery mode".

Anybody here have experienced something similar? Have I "bricked" the phone? :/

It never proceeds from the Replicant logo. It stays there until the battery is drained.

Hi Sven Erik, I encountered a similar issue some time, but the phone was rebooting again and again. I finally found an answer and gave the steps I followed in https://redmine.replicant.us/issues/1725
Hope this could help.

PS: perhaps you will have more success if moving this topic into https://redmine.replicant.us/projects/replicant/boards/3 ?
