Unable to change of wallpaper on S3 I9300 (replicant 4.2)

Added by E D almost 9 years ago

Hello,

I recently tried to change the original replicant wallpaper with one custom image.
I went into Settings -> Affichage -> "Fond d'écran" and selected Images,
it then asks me to choose one image through a file manager.

If I choose the original file manager, each time I select the image (jpeg) it crashes,
if I choose Ghost Commander, I am able to select the image, but then it again asks me
with which application I want to continue and I do not understand how to go back to the menu
settings, which seems unaware of the image file selected (nothing changes after).

I tried again and again, eventually changing of image size and format (png, gif).

Probably, I misunderstood something, may you indicate me how you change of wallpaper ?

Thanks for your help.

Best regards.

Have you tried entering the gallery, selecting a picture and pressing "Set as" and Wallpaper?

If you want to do so, you could try an (more ordinary) file manager, like "Amaze" for that job:

Have you tried entering the gallery, selecting a picture and pressing "Set as" and Wallpaper?

Alternatively you could long press on a free area on you background and select "Gallery" in the upcoming "Choose wallpaper from"-dialog.

Hello,

I have the exact same problem, setting a wallpaper through “Display > Wallpaper > Pictures” simply doesn't work. I tried with both the default file manager and amaze, none of them work. I tried with a long press on a free area on the background with those two file managers, it still doesn't work. When I use the gallery app instead of a file manager or the “Set as > Wallpaper” when watching an image, I have to crop the image down to something too small for my screen, the output it therefore quite unpleasant.

If there is anything I can do to investigate/solve this issue, I'll be happy to help.

Sorry, it seems I've forgotten, that I made a workaround to avoid behaviors like this.

It seems, that this is the standard behavior of 4.X (and probably other) AOSPs, if I'm not mistaken.

I have a display resolution of 480x800 pixel on my i9100. I am able to set a 480x800 lockscreen-background "fullscreen" without any trouble.
But this seems to be a little different for the homescreen-wallpaper. I think because Android have to consider that you could swipe (left and right) to more than one homescreen(s), and so seems to automatically reduce the range which could be selected from a 480x800 picture.

To cut a long story short. I've reduced my (Trebuchet [= Replicant's standard launcher]) Homescreens over Trebuchet Settings -> Homescreen -> Homescreens -> 1 (because I don't need more than one). In the meantime I use an alternative launcher (KISS launcher) which provides only one homescreen, too.
Then, if I had a 480x800 wallpaper, I copied this whole wallpaper in the middle of a 1280x800 frame. In other words. Create a 1280x800 blank wallpaper (or use a template) and copy your 480x800 wallpaper in the middle of it. For this, you could use great open source tools like http://www.gimp.org/ (which automatically imports pictures centered if you paste it from the clipboard).

I must confess that I can't remember, how I came to the 1280 (from the 480). The increase between this two values is in percent: 266,67%. That means for the i9300 (with a display resolution 720x1280 pixel) this should be a 1920x1280 frame.

If you set your new wallpaper, you could just leave the standard selected frame to not to crop the image down and set the whole wallpaper "fullscreen" as you wish.

I know this is probably not the method you prefer, (or just not the answer you wanted to hear), but hopefully it helps anyway.

I am on the latest Replicant (6.0) and have also had issues with setting the wallpaper.

It seems to me it is not possible to change the number of homescreens in Replicant 6.0.

But I would like to say that for the lock screen wallpaper your method of scaling the image worked smoothly! :)

Thank you My Self :)
