Description

DDG isn't entirely Free Software, but it's a lot freer than Google and it has a reasonable privacy policy. I found instructions on compiling the browser with alternative search engines (hoelz.ro/blog/adding-duckduckgo-as-an-android-browser-search-engine).

It makes no sense at all to say that a service is "more free software" than another one.

Whether you ask Google or DDG, you have the exact same freedom guarantees: they both have the very same infos about your request.
You can choose to trust DDG more than Google about what they'll do with the data they gather but that's your personal belief.
The fact that DDG openly announce that they don't spy (their privacy policy) isn't more than a few words, that you can choose to believe or not, that's up to you, but it is no objective freedom guarantee.

I think the issue here is that the Google search bar acts like a keylogger and sends home search queries and URLs entered.
