Description

As you probably noticed as Replicant boots it shows the loading of different parts of the system bellow Replicant's boot screen even if the device has been encrypted.

Which file is responsible for this behavior during boot and how can this be changed?

  • Subject changed from Replicant exposing parts of the system on boot even with encryption to Document "device encryption" Was: Replicant exposing parts of the system on boot even with encryption

This is a bug in the documentation.

What happens is "device encryption" is a very misleading term as it doesn't encrypt everything.

Only the USERDATA partition is encrypted.

I've started adding some infos about that on the UsageNotes wiki page, but we probably also need to update other parts of the wiki and the freedom privacy and security page.

I've also opened a new bugreport (#2004) as we need to document better how the encryption works.
