Description

Hi, I recently installed Replicant 4.2 on my Samsung Galaxy S2.

I find that gesture typing doesn't work, however it worked fine on the same phone when I was using Cyanogenmod 10.1, so I guess something went wrong after you forked, hence I'm reporting it here.

When I try to gesture-type, I see the 'trail' but no words appear. Normal typing works fine.

Settings in language and input settings > android keyboard setting are:
Enable gesture typing ON
Dynamic floating preview ON
Show gesture trail ON

Other info:
Android version: 4.2.2
Baseband version: I9100BVLS4
Kernel version: 3.0.64-replicant
Replicant version: replicant-4.2

Please let me know if you need any more information.
Thanks for your work.

I noticed that behavior on Galaxy S 2 as well. It's not very important, but I'll try to look into it when I find some time.

Sorry, but I can't believe that gesture typing worked out of the box under CM, (unless installing/updating the Google Keyboard afterward).
The reason is, that gesture typing isn't a part of the AOSP keyboard. More precisely, the /lib/libjni_latinime.so (on newer keyboard versions libjni_latinimegoogle.so) doesn't contain code to decode the gestures and so it can't read from the dictionary.

The only way to get gesture typing to work is to use non-free software, which is not recommended - especially on security related keyboard apps.

If you really can't live without gesture typing, then please have a look at:
- Google Keyboard: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2312179
- Android 5.0 Google Keyboard: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2796129
But please, at least make sure that the app can't phone home by suppressing network connectivity, e. x. over firewall apps like: https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdfilter=afwall&fdid=dev.ukanth.ufirewall

Thanks for looking into this, I never tried to use it on bare CyanogenMod either. I'll close the issue as it is not specific to Replicant.
